Kathrine S Rallis, MD

Dr. Rallis earned her medical degree (M.B.B.S.) at St. Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Hospital School of Medicine and Dentistry, London, U.K. Her academic interests lie in immunotherapy, targeted therapy, epigenetics, and medical education. Within the laboratory of Dr. Jude Fitzgibbon, she undertook scholarship-funded wet-lab research, working on a project to identify, validate, and evaluate the role of mTOR-activating mutations and their sensitivity to drug-based inhibition in follicular lymphoma. As a result, she was funded to undertake clinical electives in hematology-oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. As a Clinical Trials Assistant within Dr. Thomas Powles’ team, she worked on targeted and immune therapies for genitourinary cancers. Her intercalated Master of Science (M.S.) encompassed didactic and summative studies in Cancer Biology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Drug Development, Molecular Targeted Therapy, Imaging, Pediatric and Adolescent Oncology, Cancer Prevention and Screening, Immunotherapy, Genomics, Ablative Therapy, and Research Methods. Her M.S. dissertation evaluated immunotherapies for blood cancers, with special interest in novel adoptive cell therapies. Her PhD investigates CD137 enrichment to enhance specificity and function of immune-primed adoptive T cells for the treatment of AML, employing in vitro and in vivo murine models, as well as human cell lines, and primary patient samples, with use of the CliniMACS Prodigy system. Her doctoral studies have resulted in personal academic scholarship awards and are in support of phase I clinical trial testing of the investigational cell therapy drug product studied. Within the Cancelas lab, at the Connell and O'Reilly Families Cell Manipulation Core Facility (CMCF), Dr. Rallis is undertaking a T32 fellowship, co-mentored by Dr. John Manis, in transfusion medicine, cellular therapy, and transplant, to refine and hone her skillset in cell- and gene-based therapies. Beyond cancer research, Dr. Rallis has taken interest in medical education, inspired to assess and address unmet needs, particularly in oncology training.
