Laura M Dionisio, PhD

Dr. Dionisio received her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the State University of Ponta Grossa, Brazil. During her PhD training, she studied the role of platelet activation in the pathogenesis of pregnancy hypertensive disorders. Additionally, she joined the Center for Platelet Research studies, at Boston Children's Hospital, for six months, where she collaborated with Dr. Andrew L. Frelinger to develop a flow cytometric assay to identify complement-activating antibodies in immune thrombocytopenia patients. After completing her PhD training, in 2022, she joined a lecturer position (at the State University of Ponta Grossa, Department of Clinical Analysis and Toxicology) teaching courses in immunology, hematology, and clinical laboratory Biological Sciences, Pharmacy, and Nursing Schools. In 2025, she joined the Cancelas Lab at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute where she is working on the development of strategies to increase the shelf life of platelet concentrates for transfusion. Her major research interests include: platelet biology, platelets in transfusion medicine, strategies for the improvement of platelet concentrates for transfusion, and the application of engineered platelets for cancer cell therapy.
