Dr. Prasad received his PhD from the University of Calcutta, India. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Cancelas's lab, specializing in hematopoiesis and the bone marrow microenvironment. His research focuses on the role of bone marrow adipocytes and LepR+ mesenchymal stromal cells in regulating hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). LepR+ cells, as well as bone marrow adipocytes in some cases, play pivotal roles in regulating hematopoiesis by expressing various cytokines, including SCF, CXCL12, and IL-7. Additionally, LepR+ cells are the major source of osteoblasts and adipocytes within the bone marrow. Bone marrow adipocytes produce a range of lipid species and pro-inflammatory molecules that can influence HSC activation, metabolism, and lineage bias. Dr. Prasad’s research aims to understand how these microenvironmental cells impact HSC metabolism.
