Our lab contributed to a new study published in Blood: "Loss of GABARAP mediates resistance to immunogenic chemotherapy in multiple myeloma".
The study reveals that loss of GABARAP, a protein often affected by chromosome 17p deletion in multiple myeloma, reduces the effectiveness of immunogenic chemotherapy like bortezomib. This loss impairs the immune system's ability to recognize and attack cancer cells, contributing to chemotherapy resistance. The absence of GABARAP prevents the presentation of calreticulin (CRT) on the cell surface during immunogenic cell death (ICD), a key mechanism by which treatments like bortezomib (BTZ) stimulate immune responses against multiple myeloma.
Congratulations to all involved in this important work!
