Joana joined the Filbin Lab in 2020 as a postdoctoral fellow and was promoted to Instructor of Pediatrics in 2025. Originally from Portugal, she earned her PharmD from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Lisbon, and went on to complete her PhD in Cancer Biology at the University of Zurich in Switzerland.
