Shapiro Laboratory
Cell Cycle Related Translational Research
The focus of research in Shapiro laboratory is to elucidate role of the cell-cycle proteins in cancer development and drug resistance. The lab focuses on current and novel drugs targeting components of the cell cycle machinery with the aim of improving our understanding, and furthering cancer therapy.
The lab focuses predominantly on Cyclin-Dependent Kinases (CDKs), which are critical regulators of cell cycle progression and RNA transcription. Increased activity and/or expression of CDKs is a hallmark cancer, and restoring cell cycle control is a key strategy in cancer treatment.
Our laboratory conducts both basic and translational research on CDKs and there role in the cell cycle, drug resistance, DNA damage and the immune response.
