Valerie Tú Uyên Nguyen is a graduate student in Biomedical & Biological Sciences (BBS) at Harvard University. She earned a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in American Studies with a Chemistry minor (with Honors) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a Carolina Scholar (full merit scholarship). At UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, she trained in Dr. Ian Davis’s lab, studying chromatin regulation and genome-wide sequencing in Ewing sarcoma and completing an honors thesis focused on chromatin accessibility modulation. Prior to starting her PhD, she was a Fulbright Research Fellow at the Princess Máxima Center in Utrecht in Dr. van Heesch’s lab, combining wet-lab and computational approaches (including ribosome profiling) to study microproteins in Ewing sarcoma. She then joined Duke University Medical Center as a DIRECT Research Fellow in Dr. Graves and Somarelli’s lab, where she investigated bioenergetic vulnerabilities in chemotherapy-resistant osteosarcoma.
